About the role

The Application Chemist I will assist in the formulation of various personal care, cosmetic, and HI&I products. The role involves performing basic lab techniques and continuously progressing formulation capabilities and knowledge of raw materials.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the formulation of personal care, cosmetic, and HI&I products for publication in industry publications and websites.
  • Support Sales staff by providing formulation support via email, phone, virtual or in-person meetings, prototype sample requests, and starter formulation development.
  • Assist in the formulation development of new raw materials as needed.
  • Research formulation techniques and properties of raw materials through literature, experimentation, and mentorship.
  • Maintain the Applications Laboratory, including equipment, benchtops, and work areas.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering, Cosmetic Science, or a related field.
  • 0–3 years of experience in formulation preferred.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Driven by curiosity and eagerness to learn.
  • Detail-oriented and organized with clear communication and documentation skills for lab notebooks.
  • Ability to operate laboratory equipment and instruments, including mixers, hot plates, viscometers, pH meters, weighing scales, and homogenizers.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, and assignments in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint).
  • Willingness and ability to travel frequently to local, domestic, and international destinations.

  • Must be able to concentrate on details, work under deadline pressures, apply sound logic and judgment, and prioritize tasks.
  • Ability to focus and multitask in a busy environment and maintain composure in potentially stressful situations.
  • Maintain effective and professional relationships with executives, staff, customers, vendors, and governmental agencies.
  • Access to and maintenance of confidential and sensitive information.
  • Must undergo and meet company standards for background checks, drug testing, and behavioral assessments.
  • Regularly required to sit, stand, and walk.
  • Ability to verbally communicate both in person and via telephone.
  • Ability to utilize various office equipment, including computer, telephone, and a copy machine.
  • Occasional lifting and/or moving of up to 10 pounds.
