Application Chemist

We are expanding our presence in North America and seeking a highly motivated Application Chemist to join our team in Ronkonkoma, NY.
About the role
The Application Chemist will serve as a technical expert, bridging laboratory science and customer-facing responsibilities. This role involves analyzing customer samples, providing product demonstrations, offering pre- and post-sale application support, and assisting with technical training for customers, staff, and distributors.
Responsibilities
- Measure and conduct sample analysis to support the Sales team with prospective customers
- Collaborate with the Sales team to plan and conduct product demonstrations, showcasing equipment features and functionality tailored to customer-specific samples
- Provide application support to customers pre- and post-sale, including troubleshooting, method adaptation, and in-person small group user training
- Assist with technical support for customers and Service staff
- Create and execute application and technical trainings via webinars for customers, Elementar staff, and distributors
- Prepare technical documentation such as sample preparation guides, test reports, user guides, and application notes for customers and the Service team
- Drive continuous improvement of applications based on feedback and innovation
- Travel as required to provide application support to customers and company personnel, ensuring timely submission of reports and paperwork
- Operate, calibrate, and maintain laboratory instruments and equipment to ensure accuracy and repeatability of results
- Order and stock reagents, gases, and spare parts to facilitate smooth laboratory operations
- Follow all safety, environmental, and regulatory procedures; participate in the development of SOPs and safety best practices
- Collaborate closely with Application Specialists in Germany
- Periodic travel to manufacturing facilities in Manchester, UK, and Langenselbold, Germany, for intensive training and certification programs
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in chemistry or a similar scientific field; graduate degrees preferred
- Experience with analytical instrumentation, preferably with Elemental Analyzers
- Customer-focused mindset; previous experience in a customer-facing role is a plus
- Strong technical writing and verbal communication skills; experience preparing technical documentation and presenting to diverse audiences
- Excellent attention to detail, analytical thinking, and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Proficiency in troubleshooting and independently solving technical problems in a lab setting
- Willingness to learn and enthusiasm for solving complex problems
- Flexible, adaptable, and comfortable shifting priorities
- Curious and improvement-oriented, always seeking better ways of working
- Approximately 15% travel required; valid driver’s license and passport necessary
- Onboarding training required in Germany
- Experience working with a CRM system, preferably SAP, and MS Office Applications
- Ability to lift up to 20 lbs
