Appian Lead Developer

About the Role

We are looking for a highly skilled Technical Lead/Senior Appian Developer to drive the design, development, and implementation of complex case management and workflow automation solutions in a federal environment. You will lead development initiatives, implement AI-driven capabilities, and ensure compliance with strict security standards. This role is remote and requires a Public Trust security clearance.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent professional experience).
• 7+ years of hands-on Appian development experience (design, configuration, and implementation of enterprise-grade applications) using Appian 17.x or later.
• 3+ years in a technical lead or senior developer capacity, leading small-to-medium development teams.
• Proven experience delivering mission-critical applications within federal or highly regulated environments.
• Experience (or strong interest) in integrating AI into business processes (e.g., document classification, extraction, summarization, intelligent decisioning, or chatbots).
• Understanding of how low-code AI features can augment automation and process orchestration.
• Hands-on experience with AI technologies, AI/ML/LLM integration, generative AI solutions, and familiarity with Appian AI.
• Proficient in SQL/Relational Databases.
• Hands-on experience with AWS cloud services.
• Strong, hands-on experience with Agile software development.
• U.S. citizenship is required due to Federal contract requirements (dual citizenship with another country cannot be considered).
• Must be able to pass a government-sponsored background investigation and obtain/maintain a Public Trust security clearance (active clearance highly preferred).
• Knowledge of FISMA, NIST, Section 508, and records management compliance.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Appian Certified Lead Developer (ACD-301) strongly preferred.
• Active Appian Senior Developer certification with a clear, immediate path to Lead will be considered.

Pay

Annual salary range: $130,000 – $150,000. Maximus compensation is based on job location, education, training, experience, expected quality and quantity of work, required travel (if any), external market, and internal value analysis.
