Appellate Court Research Attorney

About the role

The Fifth District Appellate Court is seeking new graduates and experienced attorneys with a passion for legal writing and a strong interest in appellate law for the position of Appellate Court Research Attorney. This role provides necessary and valuable assistance to the Justices of the Fifth District Appellate Court.

Responsibilities

• Perform legal research, analysis, and writing.
• Review and assist in drafting judicial orders, opinions, and other legal documents for the Justices.
• Support matters before the Fifth District Appellate Court.

Qualifications

• Open to new graduates and experienced attorneys.
• Demonstrated passion for legal writing.
• Strong interest in appellate law.
• Ability to work full-time, in‑person at the Fifth District Courthouse in Mt. Vernon, IL.
• Remote work possible for Illinois residents who have prior Illinois appellate court research attorney experience or Illinois appellate/supreme court clerking experience.
