Advanced Practice Provider (APP) PA-C for CT Surgery managing health problems and coordinating health care for surgical patients in acute care or in-patient settings, including pre- or post-surgical care. Assists in the Operating Room as First Assist when needed.
Responsibilities
- Perform professional, clinical, and technical competencies of a PA-C in the CTS Department, including First Assist in the OR.
- Evaluate medical problems of clients and request consults to other specialties as indicated.
- Provide education to patients and families about preventive care, medical issues, and prescribed treatments or medications.
- Create diagnostically appropriate treatment plans.
- Document medical evaluations, diagnoses, procedures, treatments, outcomes, education, referrals, and consultations consistent with NCQA, The Joint Commission, state regulatory standards, and evidence-based care.
- Maintain documentation compliance for appropriate coding and billing.
- Facilitate evaluation of records by physician(s), peers, and quality standards; receive and implement constructive directives.
- Refer complex and high-priority cases to collaborating physician for complicated diagnostic problems, serious illness, or therapeutic issues.
- Provide medical and emergency interventions; prescribe and monitor medications; order and assess emergency interventions.
- Maintain collegiality with the inter-disciplinary team.
- Utilize appropriate chain-of-command and communicate with Program Director, APP Director, and Medical Director regarding clinical issues; contribute to quality or process improvement.
- Perform professional, clinical, or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department.
Skills and duties may vary dependent upon department or unit. Other duties may be assigned as required.
Requirements
- Master's Degree in Physician Assistant Studies.
- Age-appropriate training for population served (may require additional training as determined by the department).
Qualifications
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) - American Heart Association (AHA) (if working in the ICU).
- Current PA-C license for the State of Kansas and/or Missouri (depending on practice locations) - Licensed Physician Assistant (PA) - State Board of Healing Arts.
- Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS or BCLS) - American Heart Association (AHA).
- Physician Assistant-Certified (PA-C) - National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous PA-C experience with First Assist in OR highly desired.
