APP - Outpatient Neurology

Bronson Neuroscience Center has an outstanding opportunity to join their established, highly reputable practice in Southwest Michigan. Our neuroscience team is seeking a team-focused, goal-oriented, energetic Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner to provide care for adult neurology patients in an outpatient clinic setting.

About the role

This full-time position is located at Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo, Michigan, with a focus on general neurology and subspecialties including movement disorders and multiple sclerosis. The schedule is Monday–Friday with no call or weekend requirements. Occasional support at satellite locations may be required. Opportunity for a Lead APP leadership role is available for experienced candidates.

Our growing practice currently supports twelve neurologists and eight APPs. The ideal candidate will have a desire to provide personalized, evidence-based care at the highest level and thrive in a collaborative environment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide outpatient care for adult neurology patients, including those with movement disorders and multiple sclerosis.
  • Evaluate and manage patients, including reviewing lab results, EKGs, and imaging studies.
  • Complete accurate and timely documentation to support billing, medical care, orders, and progress notes.
  • Act as a clinical resource for the multi-disciplinary team, coordinating care and facilitating patient progress toward outcomes.
  • Assist in developing and integrating quality measures and evidence-based practices into clinical care.
  • Perform initial comprehensive patient assessments to determine appropriate level of care and facilitate timely discharges or transfers.
  • Apply knowledge of regulatory and third-party payor criteria for utilization management.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively with patients, caregivers, physicians, and the multi-disciplinary team using the SBAR technique.
  • Be available to address nursing questions or evaluate patient status changes.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant (PA) or Nurse Practitioner (NP) program.
  • Unrestricted license to practice as a PA/NP in the state of Michigan.
  • State DEA license to prescribe medications with current prescriptive authority and collaborative agreement with oversight physician(s).
  • Maintain all requirements for medical staff privileges.
  • Ability to practice independently with strong clinical decision-making skills.
  • Proficiency in utilizing electronic medical records (EMR), specifically Epic.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work both autonomously and in a team environment.
  • Experience in neurology, inpatient (e.g., hospitalist, critical care, ED), or internal/family medicine is preferred but not required.
  • Minimum 1–2 years’ experience as an APP is preferred.

Skills

  • Clinical decision-making and ability to manage high levels of mental/visual fatigue.
  • Proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet, presentation programs, and other job-relevant software.
  • Regular communication with internal and external customers, including physicians, patients, third-party payers, and community agencies.
  • Ability to handle physical demands such as walking, standing, stooping, bending, sitting, and lifting light-weight objects.
