APP - Outpatient Neurology

Bronson Neuroscience Center has an outstanding opportunity to join their established, highly reputable practice in Southwest Michigan. Our neuroscience team is seeking a team-focused, goal-oriented, energetic Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner to provide care for adult neurology patients in an outpatient clinic setting.

About the role

This full-time position is Monday–Friday, located at Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo, with a focus on general neurology and subspecialties including movement disorders and multiple sclerosis. There is opportunity for a Lead APP leadership role for experienced candidates. The practice currently supports twelve neurologists and eight APPs. Occasional support at satellite locations may be required. No call or weekend requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Provide personalized, evidence-based care for adult neurology patients in an outpatient setting.
  • Coordinate care with the multi-disciplinary team to facilitate patient progress and outcomes, including discharge or transfer of care.
  • Act as a clinical resource for the multi-disciplinary team.
  • Perform initial comprehensive patient assessments to determine appropriate service intensity and potential need for transfer to a hospital setting.
  • Apply knowledge of regulatory and third-party payor criteria for utilization management.
  • Facilitate timely discharges or transfers to the appropriate level of care.
  • Evaluate and manage patients, including lab, EKG, and imaging studies.
  • Complete accurate and thorough documentation to support billing, medical care, orders, and progress notes.
  • Be available to address nursing questions or evaluate patient status changes.
  • Identify common patient complications and implement appropriate preventative measures.
  • Assist in the development and integration of quality measures and evidence-based practices into clinical care.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant (PA) or Nurse Practitioner (NP) program.
  • Unrestricted license to practice as a PA/NP in the state of Michigan.
  • State DEA license to prescribe medications.
  • Current prescriptive authority and collaborative agreement with oversight physician(s).
  • Ability to maintain all requirements for medical staff privileges.
  • Minimum 1–2 years’ experience as an APP is preferred but not required.
  • Experience in neurology, inpatient (e.g., hospitalist, critical care, ED), or internal/family medicine is preferred.
  • Strong clinical decision-making skills and ability to practice independently.
  • Excellent communication skills with patients, caregivers, and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Proficiency in navigating EMR systems (Epic preferred).
  • Ability to work both autonomously and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Regular use of word processing, spreadsheet, presentation programs, and other relevant software.

Skills

  • Clear and effective verbal and written communication, including use of SBAR technique.
  • Ability to manage high levels of mental and visual fatigue, including sustained concentration on detailed tasks.
  • Capability to handle some physical demands, such as walking, standing, stooping, bending, sitting, and lifting light objects.
