APP Nocturnist (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) - Clinical Decision Unit
Job Summary
The Advanced Practice Registered Nurse – Nurse Practitioner and Physician Assistant positions at St. Tammany Health System are dedicated to coordinating care for hospitalized patients. Both roles require specific education and training in acute care and are supervised by Lead Hospital Medicine physicians.
Responsibilities
- Nurse Practitioner:
- Addressing patient clinical issues while hospitalized
- Documenting a H&P within 24 hours
- Placing orders for diagnostic and treatment modalities
- Following up on diagnostic test results
- Scheduling appropriate specialty and sub-specialty consultations
- Formalizing the patient handoff process
- Communicating effectively with patients, families, and colleagues
- Documenting a Discharge Summary within 24 hours
- Physician Assistant:
- Addressing patient clinical issues while hospitalized

Qualifications
- Nurse Practitioner:
- Minimum Master’s degree in nursing with clinical experience in acute care
- Current Louisiana RN license
- Current APRN licensure in Louisiana
- Eligible for limited prescriptive authority in Louisiana
- Physician Assistant:
- Minimum Master’s degree in nursing with clinical experience in acute care
- Current PA licensure in Louisiana
- Eligible for limited prescriptive authority in Louisiana
Physical Demands
Must possess good physical health. Requirements include standing, sitting, or walking for long periods, lifting at least 50 pounds, working with moderate noise levels, and performing tasks requiring constant hearing, seeing, handling/feeling, talking, lifting, carrying, pushing/pulling, stooping, crouching, reaching, and climbing stairs, ladders, etc.
