About the role
The Nurse Practitioner (NP) supports surgical practice by assisting surgeons, assessing patients, and treating injuries and ailments. This role involves working collaboratively with providers and independently to provide care, formulate treatment plans, and prescribe medications as necessary.
Responsibilities
- Assists surgeons with suturing, counting, positioning, set-up, and tear-down of cases.
- Advocates for patient safety by filling in for direct APP support when needed.
- Collaborates with other healthcare professionals to analyze and interpret patient information.
- Rounds on patients to ensure care coordination and navigation.
- Provides information and counseling to patients and their families on health promotion, risk factor reduction, and treatment plans.
- Covers hospital consultations, rounds, and assists with patient procedures as needed.
- Conducts research and incorporates evidence-based practice guidelines into care.
- Maintains current knowledge of state legal regulations and payer systems.
Requirements
- Completion of a master’s, postmaster’s, or doctorate from an accredited nurse practitioner program.
- Licenses and certifications: Current licensure by the applicable state board of nursing, DEA permit to prescribe controlled substances, and certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner (NP-C) or (FNP-BC).
- Experience in an adequate volume of patients within the past twelve months, or completion of a master’s/post-master’s degree program within the past twelve months.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated current competence and provision of care, treatment, or services for an adequate volume of patients in the past twelve months.
- Current licensure by the applicable state board of nursing for advanced practice.

Skills
Extensive advanced knowledge of medical principles, practices, and techniques.
