API PA Lead Paid Canvasser Allegheny County

About the Role

The Asian Pacific Islander Political Alliance (API PA) is seeking passionate individuals to join our team as API PA Lead Paid Canvassers. This temporary position, running from September to November 2026, focuses on engaging Asian Pacific Islander voters in Pittsburgh/Allegheny County through door-to-door canvassing, voter registration, and education.

Responsibilities

• Conduct door-to-door canvassing using the MiniVAN Canvassing app to engage voters in target areas.
• Track conversations and data in the provided canvassing platform.
• Participate in canvassing training, debriefing sessions, and organization-wide meetings.
• Assist with transportation for other canvassers between sites as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Vaccinated against COVID-19 and boosted (exemptions for valid religious/medical reasons may be requested).
• Physically able to walk up to 2.5 miles per shift.
• Access to a cell phone and vehicle.
• Basic tech literacy (cell phones, tablets, Google Maps, data entry via app).
• Conversational fluency in English.

Qualifications

• Strong verbal communication and listening skills, with a willingness to engage strangers on political issues.
• Ability to work independently and with diverse staff.
• Personal knowledge of or experience working with Asian American communities.
• Understanding of and commitment to API PA’s values or a strong willingness to learn.
• Ability to lead check-ins and debriefs with guidance from the Civic Engagement Organizer.

Skills

• Conversational fluency in an Asian language (e.g., Mandarin, Cantonese, Vietnamese, Khmer, Korean, Nepali, Arabic, Hindi, Punjabi, Tamil, Bengali, Gujarati, Urdu) is highly desirable.
• Prior canvassing or equivalent experience (sales, door-to-door marketing, phone-banking, etc.) is appreciated but not required.

Schedule

30-33 hours per week, with shifts of 6-8 hours at a time. Must be flexible to work weekends. The program runs from early September 2026 through early November 2026.

Pay

Hourly rate: $23/hour.
