Apheresis RN (CLIN NURSE 2)
About the role
The CN identifies and implements nursing interventions and evaluates results for a wide variety of patient populations, directs and acts as resource to other members of the nursing team as assigned and promotes compliance and support for policies. The primary responsibilities for this position consist of providing total, comprehensive, continuous and patient centered care which includes: assessing, documenting, planning, implementing, teaching, developing, and evaluating a comprehensive nursing plan of care; delivering direct patient care; ensuring patient satisfaction; training and delegating duties; and adhering to University policies and procedures as well as federal, state and local regulations. Autonomous nursing care is the ability of a nurse to assess and provide nursing actions as appropriate for patient care populations based on competence, professional expertise, and knowledge. The nurse is expected to practice autonomously consistent with ANA Standards of Practice and Professional Performance. Independent judgment is expected to be exercised within the context of interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary approaches to patient care. Provides direct patient care to a diversified patient population. Applies knowledge, experience and judgment to determine the importance of a situation, set priorities, and use abstract thought to evaluate clinical situations. Participates in patient and staff education. Demonstrates leadership skills. Demonstrates accountability for own practices as defined by the Nurse Practice Act.
Department overview
As the sole Apheresis Department for UC Davis Health, this team provides a wide range of highly specialized services in both the inpatient and ambulatory settings to patients from the entire region. These complex services range from plasmapheresis, red cell exchanges and therapeutic leukocyte reductions to allogeneic donor and autologous stem cell collections (for stem cell transplants and CAR-T therapies) and post-transplant extracorporeal photopheresis/ECP. Some of these services are provided to patients in an acute setting, while others support patients with chronic conditions who will be seen by the Apheresis department for months or even years. The team is comprised of specialty trained and highly skilled nurses and physicians. The Apheresis department services every area of UC Davis Health, working closely with providers from Cellular Therapy and Stem Cell Transplant (both Adult and Pediatric), Blood Bank, Solid Organ Transplant (kidney and liver), and Neurology as well as Clinical Trial and Research. Following the guidelines as set forth by the American Society for Apheresis (ASFA), the Apheresis team is committed to providing outstanding patient-centric care with the highest quality and safety standards and is accredited by the Foundation of the Accreditation of Cellular Therapy/FACT.
Department specific job scope
Registered Nurses in the Apheresis department at UC Davis Medical Center provide care to adult and pediatric patients with a variety if medical (medical surgical, critical care, emergent, perioperative) needs. Patient conditions include: various medical/surgical conditions requiring peripheral venous access, central venous access, and apheresis.

Minimum qualifications
- Valid California Registered Nurse License without restriction
- American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS), or UC Davis Health CPR
- Within 3 years of hire, obtain Oncology Certification or 36 continued education units (CEUs) that are oncology specific in a three-year accreditation cycle to meet the Commission on Cancer 4.2 Standard on nursing education. Oncology Nursing Certifications that qualify for this standard include, but are not limited to: Advanced Oncology Certified Nurse (AOCN®), Blood & Marrow Transplant Certified Nurse (BMTCN®), Certified Pediatric Hematology Oncology Nurse (CPHON®), Certified Pediatric Oncology Nurse (CPON®), Certified Breast Care Nurse (CBCN®), Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN®).
- Graduation from an accredited school of nursing
- At least three (3) years of acute hospital experience
- Ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language
- Ability to utilize medical terminology appropriately
- Knowledge of current trends in nursing

Preferred qualifications
- BSN
- 2 years of Apheresis and/or Dialysis experience
- Critical Care experience
- Oncology experience
- Vascular Access experience
Pay
$77.41 – $104.16 hourly
Schedule
10-hour shifts, 7:30 AM – 6:00 PM
