About the role
The Agency of Transportation seeks a Fleet Service Technician IV to join our Colchester team. Starting salary may vary based on experience and qualifications.
Responsibilities
- Diagnose and repair a wide variety of fleet equipment, including light and medium duty pickups, heavy duty dump trucks, bucket loaders, backhoes, excavators, trailers, and more.
- Install and service vehicle and equipment related electronic components.
- Perform emergency road repairs as needed.
- Maintain a safe and clean work environment.
- Participate in a random drug and alcohol testing program once a commercial driver's license is obtained.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Three (3) years or more of experience in the maintenance and service of light, medium, and/or heavy duty vehicles and equipment at the journeyman’s level, including experience in the installation and service of vehicle and equipment related electronic components.
- Three (3) years or more as a Fleet Technician III.
- Valid Driver’s License.
- Commercial Learner’s permit within 60 days of employment.
- Vermont State Inspection Mechanic Certification within 60 days of employment.
- Class A Commercial Driver's License with air-brake certification and tanker endorsement within six (6) months of employment.
- Own hand-tools.

- Proficient in software used for fleet equipment diagnostics and repair.
- Strong mechanical and technical skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Physical ability to use tools and lift parts and materials common to working on heavy vehicles and equipment.

- Proficiency in vehicle and equipment electronic diagnosis and repair.
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to learn from and share knowledge with colleagues.

Pay
- Step 1 rate: $28.05 per hour.
- Step 15 rate: $43.80 per hour.
Schedule
- Overtime work may be required.
