Anticipated Teacher (6-8 Science)

About the Role

Under the supervision of the school principal, responsible for the instruction, progress, and discipline of all pupils in assigned classes, and performs related duties as required.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement instructional planning, including written lesson plans aligned with the objectives of the instructional program.
• Establish positive learning expectation standards for all pupils and evaluate their progress while maintaining accurate records of achievements.
• Apply contemporary principles of learning theory and teaching methodology, utilizing available instructional materials.
• Participate in the development and implementation of new teaching techniques.
• Create bulletin board and interest areas reflective of pupils' current work.
• Demonstrate and apply knowledge of curriculum content related to subject areas and instructional level.
• Participate in programs to improve student attendance and promote anti-vandalism initiatives in schools.
• Establish and maintain reasonable rules of conduct within the classroom and school grounds (e.g., playgrounds, corridors, lunchrooms) consistent with the Chicago Public Schools' Uniform Discipline Code.
• Maintain accurate attendance records and seating charts.
• Encourage student growth in self-discipline and positive self-concept.
• Ensure fairness in teacher-pupil relationships and exhibit understanding and respect for students.
• Initiate conferences with parents, guardians, administrators, or ancillary personnel following school procedures.
• Communicate with parents or guardians regarding pupils' academic progress, attendance, and conduct.
• Participate in in-service meetings, professional staff meetings, and utilize provided information and materials.
• Coordinate and attend class field trips as needed.
• Engage in extra-curricular and after-school activities.
• Utilize appropriate community resources to support the educational program.

Requirements

• Successful completion of all student teaching requirements and coursework required for the appropriate teaching certificate(s) issued by the Illinois State Board of Education.
• Possession of at least one of the following valid teaching licenses issued by the Illinois State Board of Education: Professional Educator License (PEL) or Educator License with Stipulations (ELS), properly endorsed for this position.

Qualifications

• Knowledge: Subject matter consistent with state certification requirements, contemporary principles and practices of teaching, and classroom and behavior management techniques.
• Abilities: Modify instruction to meet student needs; cooperate with faculty and administration in developing and implementing an articulated program of instruction; work effectively with pupils, parents, staff, and community representatives; understand physical, intellectual, social, and emotional patterns of pupils.
• Skills: Application of contemporary teaching principles and practices, strong oral and written communication, interpersonal skills, and sound professional judgment.

Physical Requirements

Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, or up to 10 pounds frequently, or negligible force constantly to move objects.

Pay

Salary range: $64,469.94 to $82,839.39.

Primary location: Southwest Side - 2929 West 83rd Street (Carroll-Rosenwald Specialty).
