Anticipated 201-day working calendar: 8/14/2026 – 6/25/2027. Reports to Building Administration.

About the role

Primarily based out of Jackson Hole Middle School, this position coordinates and conducts a large part of translation and interpretation for the school district. The role requires flexible hours to interpret for evening meetings and handle last-minute translations as needed. Additionally, the position assists with secretarial duties and may support other school district departments or schools.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as translator/interpreter for Jackson Hole Middle School, including IEPs, student evaluations, referrals, transition meetings, and other student services.
  • Translate forms and other documents.
  • Coordinate with families of students to facilitate their participation in education services: inform parents of upcoming meetings, contact parents regarding appointments with outside agencies, etc.
  • Assist with parent-teacher conferences and other school-wide events such as after-school activities.
  • Serve as translator/interpreter for school and district-level communication, documents, and events.
  • Assist with phone calls and in-person interactions at school buildings for families needing Spanish interpretation.
  • Coordinate with the school principal and/or district Information Coordinator to ensure translation/interpretation of district-level communication.
  • Work with the school principal and/or Information Coordinator to improve overall communication to and from Spanish-speaking families.
  • Assist with program-wide translation of curriculum and materials for the dual immersion program.
  • Assist with secretarial duties for school buildings.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High levels of proficiency in oral and written English and Spanish, including the ability to conduct simultaneous translations.
  • Knowledge of computers, Google software applications, Microsoft Word/Excel, and other office equipment (copiers, fax, etc.).
  • Knowledge of and familiarity with the specified language, culture, including customs, values, beliefs, and behaviors.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of information.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to work flexibly and with minimal direction.
  • Ability to manage projects/tasks and meet predetermined deadlines.
  • Ability and desire to work collaboratively with colleagues in the Student Services Department and throughout the district.
  • Ability to work flexible hours.
  • Physical and mental stamina commensurate with the responsibilities of the position.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with Spanish-speaking parents and families in an educational setting.
  • Experience with various communication structures and systems: School Messenger, Publisher, etc.
  • Understanding of the Latino community in Teton County and contacts with community service agencies.
  • Experience contracting with outside translation services.

Education & Certification

  • High school graduation or equivalent.
  • Associate and/or Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Training/certification in translation/interpretation preferred.

  • Frequently required to stand, talk, hear, and sometimes walk or sit on the floor depending on the age of the children.
  • May occasionally push or lift up to 50 lbs., such as boxes of books and AV/VCR carts, at heights ranging from 0–20 feet.
  • Occasionally bend or twist at the neck more than average, lift arms to write on chalk or marking boards, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or reach 0–36 inches above the head.
  • Directly responsible for the safety, well-being, and work output of others.
  • Specific vision abilities include close vision to read handwritten or typed material, ability to adjust focus, and exposure to screens via technology.
  • Hearing ability to monitor activity and respond to communication with students and adults.
  • Ability to meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff.

  • Noise level is normally low to moderate but may become loud when large groups are together in a room.

  • Typically performed in a hazard-free, clean, and healthy environment.

Pay

Compensation starting at $55,462.00 per year, dependent on experience.
