Anticipated Long-Term Substitute - Speech and Language Teacher

Long-term substitute position covering speech and language services in a K-12 setting.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct appropriate testing and assessments to evaluate and diagnose student speech and language problems.
  • Provide speech and language therapy services and develop classroom activities to enhance student academic and speech/language capabilities.
  • Monitor student progress and ensure alignment with IEP goals and objectives.
  • Maintain appropriate student records and progress reports as required by District, State, and Federal standards.
  • Serve as a resource for other staff members on how best to support students with speech and language problems.
  • Participate in IEP meetings and parent consultations; offer guidance for families on how best to assist students with speech and language problems outside of the classroom.
  • Keep up to date with new developments in speech and language therapy research and techniques and incorporate them into lesson plans.
  • Perform other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other central office administrators.

Requirements

  • PA Special Education - Speech and Language Impaired PK-12 Certification required.
  • Master’s degree in a relevant area of study.
  • Successful speech and language teaching experience in a K-12 setting preferred.

Skills

  • Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, including differentiated instruction based on student learning styles.
  • Knowledge of speech/language principles, theories, testing, assessment tools, and proven intervention methods for students with speech and language problems.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
  • Ability to use computer network systems and software applications as needed.
  • Ability to organize and coordinate work.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.
  • Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.

Required documents: Letter of Interest, Resume, Certification, Transcripts (all colleges/universities attended), Praxis Scores (all areas of certification), 3 letters of reference dated within the past year. While not required for the application, please also provide your most current Act 34, Act 151, Act 114, and Act 126 clearances if available. If you are a current student in the process of completing your teaching program, please upload your most current transcripts and a letter from your university indicating eligibility for certification in place of your PA teaching certificate and Praxis Scores.
