Regional School Unit No. 57 (RSU 57) Waterboro, Maine (Anticipated) 1st Grade Elementary Classroom Teacher Position Summary The 1st Grade teacher is responsible for fostering a positive and engaging learning environment where all students develop the knowledge, skills, behaviors, and attitudes necessary to become successful individuals and citizens. The teacher plans and delivers effective instruction, evaluates student progress, manages classroom behavior, and engages in continuous professional growth. Reporting Structure Reports to the Building Principal and/or Assistant Principal. Qualifications Education: Bachelor's degree in a specific area of teaching (Early Childhood Education preferred).Certification: Must hold appropriate Maine Department of Education Certification.Appropriate training and preparation for elementary-level instruction Key Responsibilities Instruction & Planning Develop and implement lesson plans aligned with curriculum goalsEstablish clear objectives for lessons and projectsUse appropriate instructional methods and materialsDifferentiate instruction to meet diverse student needs Classroom Environment & Management Create a positive, inclusive, and engaging classroom environmentEstablish and maintain fair classroom rules and proceduresEncourage active student participation Assessment & Student Support Regularly assess and monitor student progressProvide required progress reportsIdentify learning challenges and collaborate with specialists Professional Responsibilities Participate in professional development opportunitiesAttend staff meetings and serve on committeesCollaborate with colleagues and administration Operations & Compliance Maintain accurate and complete student recordsFollow district policies and proceduresEnsure student safety and proper use of school resourcesPrepare plans and materials for substitute teachers Family & Community Engagement Communicate with parents/guardians as neededBe available outside instructional hours under reasonable termsUtilize community resources to support learning Additional Duties Perform other duties as assigned by administration Terms of Employment Salary, work year, and working conditions are determined by the RSU 57 School Board. Compensation: Annual salary range of $49,000–$88,477 Evaluation Performance is evaluated in accordance with School Board policies. Physical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those required to successfully perform the essential functions of this job: Frequent: Sitting, standing, walking, and climbing stairs.Physical Tasks: Bending, pulling, pushing, kneeling, and crouching.Lifting: Ability to lift ranging from 25–75 lbs depending on student size and situational needs.
