Assistant Professor of Computer Science (Cybersecurity) – Tenure Track
About the Role
The University of North Georgia’s Department of Computer Science and Information Systems invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Computer Science with a focus on Cybersecurity to begin August 2025. The department offers a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science (ABET-accredited), a Bachelor of Science in Cybersecurity, and a Master of Science in Cybersecurity. The successful candidate will contribute to teaching, scholarship, and service in support of these programs.
Responsibilities
- Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in computer science and cybersecurity, including core courses and specialized electives.
- Develop and maintain an active research program in cybersecurity or a closely related field, with a record of peer-reviewed publications and external funding.
- Advise and mentor undergraduate and graduate students, including supervision of student research and capstone projects.
- Participate in curriculum development, program assessment, and accreditation activities.
- Engage in departmental, college, and university service, including committee work and community outreach.
- Collaborate with industry, government, and academic partners to enhance cybersecurity education and research opportunities.
Requirements
- Ph.D. in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or a closely related field by the start date (August 2025). ABD candidates may be considered but must complete the degree by December 2025.
- Demonstrated expertise in cybersecurity, including but not limited to network security, cryptography, secure software development, digital forensics, or risk management.
- Evidence of teaching effectiveness at the undergraduate and/or graduate level.
- Potential for or record of scholarly research and external funding in cybersecurity or a related field.
- Commitment to working with diverse student populations and supporting the mission of a public, regional university.
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional experience in cybersecurity or a related industry role.
- Experience with cybersecurity certifications (e.g., CISSP, CEH, CompTIA Security+) and their integration into academic programs.
- Experience with grant writing and securing external funding for research or educational initiatives.
- Experience with online or hybrid teaching modalities.
- Experience with ABET accreditation or other program assessment processes.
