Annual Facilities Program Structural Plans Engineer- Planning & Development
About the role
The Planning & Development Department guides the physical development of the city by preserving historic sites, planning what can be built where, and ensuring safe construction of buildings and infrastructure. A host of advisory and governing bodies of residents as well as elected officials provide oversight as the city grows and needs arise. The process is governed through development and enforcement of city codes and ordinances.
IDEAL CANDIDATE
- Knowledge of International Building Code (IBC) and construction codes.
- Knowledge of plan review and examining complex building construction documents prepared by a structural engineer for compliance with adopted codes and ordinances.
- Ability to use digital design and plan review mark-up software (ie., Bluebeam, Projectdox, AutoCAD, etc.).
- Ability to provide written and verbal communication related to the interpretation of the Phoenix Building Construction Code to resolve complicated code related issues.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Three years of experience in the building construction industry relating to structural engineering for buildings or similar structures.
- Bachelor's degree in civil or structural engineering or a related field.
- Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.
- By the end of probation, must meet the following two requirements:- Registered Professional Engineer / Structural or Civil (PE) in the State of Arizona
- ICC Building Plans Examiner (B3)
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- ICC Building Plans Examiner Certification.
- Professional registration in the State of Arizona as a Structural or Civil Professional Engineer (PE).
- Experience with supervising field employees, including Inspector and Plan reviewers.
- Experience working with standard building construction materials.
- Experience preparing and interpreting building construction plans.
- Experience reviewing structural construction plans.
- Experience using and applying IBC and structural material codes
- Experience with Electronic Plan Review Software.
- Experience with structural system rational analysis and building member design (building construction).
- Experience using and interpreting engineering design and calculation software.
- Experience with field inspections.
