About the Artist

Painter, printmaker, stage designer, and photographer known for capturing snapshots of everyday life through luminous acrylic works. One of the most influential figures in the 1960s British Pop Art movement, he blurred the boundaries between painting and illustration, earning widespread acclaim as one of the most popular British artists of the 20th century.

• Born in England, 1937
• Studied at Bradford School of Art (1953–1957)
• Attended the Royal College of Art, London (1959–1962); awarded the gold medal upon graduation
• Received the Praemium Imperiale (Painting) in 1989
• Awarded the Order of Merit by Queen Elizabeth II in 2012 for achievements in the arts, literature, and sciences
• Designed *The Queen’s Window*, a stained-glass work created on iPad, installed at Westminster Abbey in 2018
