About the Role

Animation history will be taught over two courses. The candidate must have a working knowledge of animation history and the figures involved in the art form. A master's degree is preferable.

Responsibilities

• Teach ANIM 201: History of Animation, which introduces students to the context, culture, and technology necessary for understanding the world of animation. The course covers:
  • History of animation, its practitioners, and development
  • How animation interprets history and its use in the twentieth century
  • The aesthetic of the animated image and its unique communicative ability
  • Tools, technology, and techniques used in animation
  • Animation from various studios, feature-length films, and experimental shorts
  Priority enrollment is given to Animation majors.
• Teach ANIM 301, which continues the exploration of animation’s evolving context, culture, and technology. The course covers:
  • Stylistic changes in the 1950s and the emergence of television animation
  • The second golden age of Disney animation and the advent of CG animation
  • The shift from literary to visual culture and the importance of conveyed images
  • Animation from various studios, including feature-length films, narrative, and experimental shorts
