Brief Description Animal welfare interns engage in a variety of responsibilities under the supervision of PAWS Chicago staff. Intern responsibilities include but are not limited to: Participating in the daily care of all animals (dogs and cats)Following cleaning, feeding, and watering protocols to maintain the health of the animalsProviding enrichment and socialization to the animalsEnsuring the animal housing areas are organized and presentableIdentifying and communicating animal health and/or behavioral observationsCaring for animals recovering from surgeryAssisting veterinary staff with supply preparation, paperwork and data entryHelping to feed and clean feral cat housing post-surgery Requirements Passion for animals and belief in our mission to create a No Kill ChicagoAbility to remain on feet for long periods of time and perform physical tasks that include but are not limited to climbing, bending, stooping, kneeling, twisting, reaching, crawling, holding, and liftingAbility to adapt and solve problems proactivelyPositive attitude and willingness to go "the extra mile"Comfort working with others, including staff and volunteersPrevious experience performing animal care activities is desirable Intern Schedule PAWS Chicago requires that interns complete 12-20 hours per week over the course of a typical (3-6 month) semester for a minimum of 100 hours on the job.Schedules and work accommodations will be discussed individually.This position is based out of the Medical Center (3516 W. 26th Street Chicago, IL 60623) This internship may interest you if you are interested in the following fields: Animal CareAnimal ScienceAnimal ShelteringBiologyShelter ManagementVeterinary ServicesZoology Compensation & Benefits This is an unpaid internship with PAWS Chicago.
