Animal Services Officer
About the role
Animal Services Officers provide information and resources to help people and animals. Duties include protecting public health and safety by responding to and investigating animal related issues and enforcing local and state laws related to animals.
Responsibilities
- Responding to complaints reported by the public
- Capturing stray or loose animals
- Removing dead animals
- Investigating biting incidents
- Issuing warnings and citations for animal control ordinance violations
- Caring for captured animals
- Cleaning animal shelter facilities and vehicles
- Euthanizing animals
- Testifying in court when required
- Answering and dispatching calls
- Participating in a dispatch duty rotation
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- No experience necessary but prior relevant experience and bilingual (English / Spanish) skills beneficial
- Basic computer knowledge and familiarity with Microsoft Office products
- Valid Class C Texas driver’s license, or ability to obtain within specified timeframe
- Animal Control Officer, euthanasia and bite stick certifications, or ability to obtain within specified timeframe

Pay
Starting pay for this position is at least $24.74 per hour, Pay Grade GG15 Step 3. The full pay range is $24.74 - $32.56 per hour.
Schedule
Schedule will include some weekend and evening hours, including participation in the on-call rotation. Must be available for callback in emergency situations and be able to adhere to a maximum one hour emergency response time.
