Pay

The target hourly rate for the Animal Services Officer I is between $21.77 - $26.13, depending on qualifications.

Responsibilities

• Master the operation of computer-aided dispatch (CAD) and shelter software system, including dispatching field calls and processing daily reports.
• Operate City animal services vehicles safely, adhering to State laws and City policies.
• Utilize CAD and two-way radio systems with correct codes and signals.
• Respond to animal complaints, remove wild animals from residences, and enforce City of Plano ordinances and regulations.
• Operate patrol vehicles within City limits to impound animals, using proper equipment and techniques for safe capture and containment.
• Euthanize animals with care and compassion, particularly those that are trapped, high-risk, rabid, critically injured, or sick.
• Remove deceased animals from various locations and maintain meticulous records of all procedures.
• Educate citizens on compliance with animal laws, responsible pet ownership, and quarantine requirements.
• Represent the Local Rabies Control Authority, issue citations or warnings, and handle citizen complaints.
• Maintain daily paperwork, utilize shelter software for transactions, and respond to high-volume phone calls and walk-in customers.
• Enter and track data efficiently, file citations and warrants, and prepare necessary reports.
• Assist with off-site events such as adoption fairs and provide adoption counseling to prospective pet owners.
• Apply proper disinfection techniques and ensure proper identification of adoptable animals.
• Provide necessary medical care, including implanting microchips, performing heartworm tests, and administering vaccinations.
