Animal Facility Manager

About the role

SoBran is seeking an Animal Facility Manager for our Norfolk, VA location. This position involves operational management support and ensuring compliance with SOPs and quality assurance standards.

Responsibilities

• Understand and follow all SOPs and Quality Assurance Standards; aid in writing needed SOPs.
• Assist the Project/Program Manager with operational management support.
• Ensure staff are trained and proficient in SOPs, policies, and guidelines for their positions.
• Maintain familiarity with day-to-day activities, personnel needs, and facility issues.
• Work with multiple animal species, including nonhuman primates.
• Demonstrate strong verbal communication, teaching skills, and knowledge of veterinary medical terminology and animal facility operations.
• Maintain effective communication with the Project/Program Manager.
• Distribute reports to SoBran staff, PI staff, and institutional personnel as needed.
• Assist in developing and maintaining relationships with investigators, their staff, maintenance personnel, and SoBran personnel to coordinate activities.
• Assist in personnel matters, including annual reviews and disciplinary issues, in collaboration with supervisory staff.
• Assist with interviewing and selection of SoBran personnel as needed.
• Order food and other supplies for the facility.
• Perform physical tasks, including lifting up to 50 lbs., bending, stooping, climbing, and standing for prolonged periods.
• Perform any other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Experience with husbandry and technical support of rodent facilities, barrier management, Non-Human Primate care, hazard containment, technical proficiency, and data management.
• Knowledge and understanding of industry-specific workplace safety and accident prevention techniques.
• Preferred: A.A. in Veterinary Technology or B.S. in Biology, Animal Science, or related discipline, along with LATG level or equivalent training/experience, and 4 years of experience in a laboratory animal facility.
