Animal Control Officer
About the role
This position enforces city ordinances, state statutes, and federal laws within the scope of animal control. Duties include patrolling the City, responding to calls for service, investigating complaints of stray, wild and domestic animals, and investigating reports of animal bites and dangerous animals.
The ideal candidate must have strong communication skills and be able to handle situations with the public with professionalism and tact. The role requires accurate preparation of reports and maintaining records of animal control incidents. You will possess or quickly gain considerable knowledge of state and federal laws and local ordinances relating to rabies, animal control, confinement of animals, and animal welfare.
Must be able to perform medium work exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently to move objects.
Responsibilities
- Patrol the City and respond to calls for service
- Investigate complaints of stray, wild, and domestic animals
- Investigate reports of animal bites and dangerous animals
- Prepare accurate reports and maintain records of animal control incidents
Requirements
- Graduation from high school
- Experience involving contact with the public and experience in handling and caring for animals (preferable)
- Possess a North Carolina driver’s license
- Must obtain euthanasia technician certification (including Chemical Immobilization) within 6 months of hire
- Must obtain Rabies Vaccinator Certification and complete the Animal Control Officer class within a reasonable time after hire

Pay
Salary range is $41,766 – $62,649.
