Animal Control Officer

Responsibilities

• Enforces animal control regulations and laws.
• Enforces quarantine on bite animals.
• Engages with the citizens of Blount County community via various activities, service calls, and events offered at BCAC.
• Learn and implement knowledge of BCAC departments practices, policies, and systems.
• Enforce animal control laws.
• Set traps for animals and remove vicious animals when appropriate.
• Generate bite reports and quarantine bite animals.
• Fill out and maintain paperwork and records.
• Impound animal when appropriate.
• Perform euthanasia on animals when necessary.
• Rescue hurt or sick animals.
• Ensure there is an animal control officer available for emergency calls.
• Answer all calls when the animal has no food or water reported.
• Maintain vehicle and equipment.
• Successfully use or repair small and light equipment, such as power tools.
• Skilled in the use of small office equipment, including copy machines and/or multi-line telephone systems, and computers for data entry.
• Perform other assigned duties as required of an Animal Control Officer.

• Bolster and sustain a professional demeanor at all times with the public, colleagues, and other agencies.
• Cultivate and maintain strong relationships within BCAC, including but not limited to BCAC volunteers, and all stakeholders associated with the BCAC.
• Capable of performing work assignments in all weather conditions and/or while surrounded with excess noises from animals: dogs barking, etc.
• Thrive working in a diverse community and fluid working environment.
