Responsibilities
- Enforces animal control regulations and laws.
- Enforces quarantine on bite animals.
- Engages with the citizens of Blount County community via various activities, service calls, and events offered at BCAC.
- Learn and implement knowledge of BCAC departments practices, policies, and systems.
- Enforce animal control laws.
- Set traps for animals and remove vicious animals when appropriate.
- Generate bite reports and quarantine bite animals.
- Fill out and maintain paperwork and records.
- Impound animal when appropriate.
- Perform euthanasia on animals when necessary.
- Rescue hurt or sick animals.
- Ensure there is an animal control officer available for emergency calls.
- Answer all calls when the animal has no food or water reported.
- Maintain vehicle and equipment.
- Successfully use or repair small and light equipment, such as power tools.
- Skilled in the use of small office equipment, including copy machines and/or multi-line telephone systems, and computers for data entry.
- Perform other assigned duties as required of an Animal Control Officer.
Qualifications
- Bolster and sustain a professional demeanor at all times with the public, colleagues, and other agencies.
- Cultivate and maintain strong relationships within BCAC, including but not limited to BCAC volunteers, and all stakeholders associated with the BCAC.
- Capable of performing work assignments in all weather conditions and/or while surrounded with excess noises from animals: dogs barking, etc.
- Thrive working in a diverse community and fluid working environment.
