About the role

The Jackson Laboratory (JAX) is seeking Animal Care Trainees to join our dynamic and supportive team. This is a full-time position offering free paid training and hourly wage of $19.25/hr.

Responsibilities

• Learn, practice and demonstrate with guidance basic proficiency in animal care, husbandry, colony maintenance, room maintenance and operations, sanitation, record keeping and relevant information systems, standard operating procedures, and staff request.
• Transports clean and soil supplies through materials airlock.
• Cage changing according to PI staff requests.
• Performs daily Welfare checks for proper food, water, bedding and wellbeing.
• Identifies abnormal animals while learning to determine if for Necropsy or Deviant Search.
• Packs and ships mice basic stock strains of mice for sales orders.
• Performs basic data entry and records i.e. AX, cage cards).

Qualifications

• A high school diploma or GED equivalency.
• Prior successful work experience is required.
• Lifting 25lbs on a regular basis.
• Walking up a ladder.
• Work well in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong attention to detail.
