About the role
The Jackson Laboratory (JAX) is seeking Animal Care Trainees to join our dynamic and supportive team. This is a full-time position offering free paid training and hourly wage of $19.25/hr.
Responsibilities
- Learn, practice and demonstrate with guidance basic proficiency in animal care, husbandry, colony maintenance, room maintenance and operations, sanitation, record keeping and relevant information systems, standard operating procedures, and staff request.
- Transports clean and soil supplies through materials airlock.
- Cage changing according to PI staff requests.
- Performs daily Welfare checks for proper food, water, bedding and wellbeing.
- Identifies abnormal animals while learning to determine if for Necropsy or Deviant Search.
- Packs and ships mice basic stock strains of mice for sales orders.
- Performs basic data entry and records i.e. AX, cage cards).
Qualifications
- A high school diploma or GED equivalency.
- Prior successful work experience is required.
- Lifting 25lbs on a regular basis.
- Walking up a ladder.
- Work well in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong attention to detail.
