Animal Care Technician Lab, Animal Care Facility
About the role
The Animal Science Center is part of the Office of Research, a group dedicated to aiding the research community in navigating the lifecycle of their work, from finding funding to creating proposals to helping inventions find their way to the public. We are a diverse group of passionate, enthusiastic personnel who understand and appreciate the importance research animals are to furthering scientific discoveries. Our mission is to ensure while aiding in academic studies, that animal care, health and welfare is maintained at the highest standards according to Institutional, local, state, and federal regulations, policies and procedures. To accomplish this goal, this candidate would complete daily quality animal care for all housed research animals such as rats, mice, birds, on the Charles River Campus. The candidate's assignments would include animal husbandry tasks such as cage changing, animal health checks, veterinary health monitoring and treatment, and facility maintenance.
Responsibilities
- Daily quality animal care for housed research animals (rats, mice, birds)
- Animal husbandry tasks: cage changing, animal health checks, veterinary health monitoring and treatment
- Facility maintenance
- Animal receiving and housing
- Census data collection
- Following standard operating procedures for Biosafety Levels ASBL-1 and ASBL-2 and Chemical Containment Levels CCL-1, CCL-2, CCL-3
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED required
- Previous experience preferred but not required
Skills
- Accurate record keeping and detail oriented
- Professional and courteous demeanor
- Effective communication via email, text, call, smartphone and computers
- Eagerness to learn and ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Ability to build working relationships with researchers, veterinary staff, and co-workers

Pay
Expected hiring range: minimum $21.00 – maximum $22.50 per hour. The final salary will be set based on departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, training, and internal pay comparison.
Schedule
Full‑time regular position, 40 hours per week. Work schedule: Tuesday to Saturday.
