About the role
We are seeking an Animal Care Technician II to join our Insourcing Solutions team, supporting the greater Boston area.
Responsibilities
- Handle and transport animals, supplies, and waste.
- Maintain sanitation logs and QA documentation.
- Support facility cleanliness and biosecurity procedures.
- Support training of ACT 1 staff by reinforcing proper use and interpretation of procedures.
- Monitor daily animal welfare and collect census while performing daily animal health observations with greater independence.
- Perform animal husbandry duties to maintain quality and health of research animals.
- Perform humane euthanasia in accordance with the Guide for Care and Use of Laboratory Animals, and under the direction of the attending veterinarian.
- Operate cagewash equipment and use supplies according to safety guidelines.
- Absorb and manipulate various animal species as assigned by the on-site supervisor or facility veterinarian.
- Independently receive, inspect, and house incoming animals based on site needs.
- Attend and participate in on-the-job and classroom training sessions and complete all assigned computer-based safety and professional development training by predetermined due dates.
- Communicate procedural questions and self-identified training deficiencies to team lead or Facility Supervisor.
- Act as subject matter expert in animal husbandry and operations signed off as competent and instructed by Facility Supervisor.
- Ability to perform or obtain competency in non-invasive technical procedures as required, such as body weights, food and water intact measurements, animal identification (e.g., ear tagging), tissue collection, dosing administration (SC, IP, PO) based on site needs.
- Perform health surveillance sample collections based on site needs.
- Perform post-surgical observations and associated record keeping.
Qualifications
- Education: High school diploma, General Education Degree (G.E.D.) or equivalent required.
- Experience: Minimum of twelve (12) months directly related laboratory animal experience in a laboratory animal facility or basic technical skills (dosing, tissue collection).
- Preferred: Bachelor’s degree (B.A./B.S.) in animal or life sciences field.
- Certification/Licensure: Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician (ALAT) or Laboratory Animal Technician (LAT) certification.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $22 to $24 USD per hour. Please note that salaries vary within the range based on factors including, but not limited to, experience, skills, education, certifications, and location.
