Animal Care Technician

Job Description Summary

We provide care and maintenance for all animals by performing tasks such as keeping kennels clean, feeding animals on schedule, exercising them daily, and documenting their needs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Keeps kennels clean, orderly, and free of odors
• Ensures kennel areas are clean, orderly, and safe for animals
• Feeds animals as scheduled and ensures they have water at all times
• Complies with specific feeding programs related to behavioral enrichment for specific animals
• Ensures animals have socialization daily
• Exercises and socializes animals daily and follows exercise programs for each dog/cat
• Documents necessary animal information for management or veterinary staff
• Ensures the comfort and cleanliness of all animals
• Baths or cleans animals immediately if they become soiled with urine, blood, or feces
• Takes inventory of stock supplies as needed
• Cleans laundry as needed
• Advises supervisor of any unsafe conditions including unrecognized hazards or infractions of safety rules

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in animal science preferred but not required
• Two or more years animal care experience in a veterinary environment; or equivalent combination of education and experience
• Ability to treat animals with care and respect and feel comfortable socializing animals off leash
• Ability to assess animal health conditions and obtain blood samples and urine samples when needed
• Ability to work independently as well as be a team player
• Ability to follow instructions and respond to management direction
• Ability to write legibly and read documents
