About the role

The Animal Care Coordinator / Case Manager position at Special Service for Groups, Inc. (SSG) is part of the HOPICS division. It is a full-time supervisor role with a pay range of $26.00 - $28.00 per hour.

Responsibilities

  • Distribute pet-related supplies including food, crates, kennels, leashes, collars, and other necessary items to program participants.
  • Maintain inventory and tracking systems for pet supplies and resources.
  • Provide referrals and linkages to veterinary services, including vaccinations, spay/neuter services, microchipping, behavioral support, and general wellness care.
  • Enroll participant pets into the PAS Program and maintain accurate records.
  • Facilitate weekly meetings and engagement activities with pet-owning participants.
  • Track pet-related expenditures and maintain required documentation in HMIS and internal tracking systems.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with pet-friendly landlords to support participants in securing permanent housing.
  • Promote a safe, supportive, and pet-friendly environment within Pathway Home Interim Housing.
  • Educate participants regarding responsible pet ownership, animal care, safety, and wellness.
  • Monitor and encourage daily care of participant pets, including access to food and basic necessities.
  • Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and program development activities.
  • Screen participants utilizing CES assessment tools, including VI-SPDAT, VI-F-SPDAT, and Next Step Tool.
  • Maintain working knowledge of SPA 6 Coordinated Entry System resources and community services.
  • Auxiliary tasks include assisting E6 MDT Teams and Street Outreach staff with street-based engagement activities, supporting HOPICS access points with participant triage, intake, enrollment, and service coordination, and assisting with distribution of hygiene supplies, food, clothing, and pet-related resources to participants.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree preferred, or one to two (1-2) years of experience working in homeless services or a related field.
  • Experience working with individuals experiencing homelessness and their companion animals preferred.
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse cultural, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to organize, coordinate, and implement program activities and services.
  • Basic computer proficiency, including word processing and data entry systems.
  • Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
  • Valid California Driver's License, reliable transportation, and current automobile insurance required.
  • Verification of Employment Eligibility and successful Background Clearance required.
  • TB clearance required prior to hire or within seven (7) days of employment and renewed annually thereafter.
  • CPR and First Aid certification required within 30 days of employment.
  • If in recovery, a minimum of three (3) years drug and alcohol free is required.
  • Experience conducting outreach and working with homeless individuals, families, community agencies, and pets preferred.
