About the role

The Indiana State Museum and Historic Sites (ISMHS) is a statewide museum system with 12 locations, including a central museum based in Indianapolis. This position serves as Program Manager of Angel Mounds State Historic Site.

Responsibilities

  • Develops and implements general audience, school programming and special events at the site.
  • Works with the site operational manager to develop and maintain community relations through support groups and historic site involvement in community programs.
  • Grants writing, procurement of corporate sponsorships, and general programming supplemental support.
  • Determines and implements priorities and strategies for keeping Site spending within annual budgets.
  • Assists with all types of State purchasing paperwork as well as money collection documentation, fiscal reports, payroll documents, monthly reports, attendance and other reports.
  • Executes work plans and delegates staff responsibilities in conjunction with operational manager.
  • Trains interpretation/programming employees to properly complete all program work assigned.
  • Recruitment, hiring, overseeing managing and evaluating all full-time and seasonal program staff.
  • Recruitment, training, and oversees supervision of volunteers to assist with general programs and special events.
  • Development and presentation of public and special programs and tours.
  • Working with the Regional School Services Manager to develop school tours, workshops and programs.
  • Obtaining sponsorships, partnerships, and grants to assist in the funding of all school, general and special events.
  • Conducts basic research to verify accuracy of information regarding historic structures, people and events connected with the Historic Site.
  • Helps to solve visitor problems and complaints.
  • Maintains cleanliness and maintenance of historic site buildings, grounds and equipment.

Requirements

  • B.A. or B.S. degree in an appropriate field such as Historic Preservation, Education, Museum Studies, Public History or History plus two years of related experience in a museum or historic site.
  • Familiarity with American Association of Museums Standards related to the care and accountability of historic preservation and archaeology requirements.
  • Knowledge of Indiana State laws and procedures pertaining to fiscal control, purchasing and personnel management.
  • Basic research skills and ability to evaluate and assimilate masses of information.
  • Able to organize an event presentation and demonstrate abilities as a public speaker.
  • Able to solve problems and to negotiate with individuals who are under stress.
  • Basic computer skills to execute e-mail and word processing.
  • Knowledge about the historic qualities of the specific site.
  • Able to manage and supervise other people in a fair and professional manner.

What You'll Need For Success

Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports

  • This role may be utilized in a supervisory capacity based on agency needs.

Pay and Schedule

The salary for this position traditionally starts at $46,350.00 but may be commensurate with education and work experience. Use our Compensation Calculator to view the total compensation package.
