Anesthesia Service Biomed Technician

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform repairs, preventative maintenance (PM), refurbishment, testing, troubleshooting, assembly, fabrications, cleaning, preparation, and inspections of anesthesia machines as well as associated complex medical equipment and systems.
  • Disassemble and reassemble anesthesia machines following manufacturer guidelines.
  • Conduct pre- and post-service per OEM guidelines functional testing to confirm equipment is safe and fully operational before return to service.
  • Service anesthesia machines used in both human clinical settings and veterinary applications, including performing verification of vaporizer outputs.
  • Schedule and manage service requests for patient monitors and electrosurgical units (ESUs).
  • Use calibrated equipment to test vaporizers, ensuring precise agent delivery and confirming output matches the labeled settings. Perform cleaning, servicing, and adjustments on vaporizers to restore accurate calibration, and complete and submit all required calibration certificates.
  • Follow engineering drawings, assembly instructions, and quality control checklists for all fabricated items, ensuring all necessary documentation is completed prior to releasing them to inventory.
  • Maintain accurate inventory records, service, and repair activities, tracking both the addition and deactivation of equipment in the inventory management system.
  • Serve as final QC authority for all medical equipment repairs within the assigned warehouse area.
  • Provide technical guidance, mentoring, and precepting to other technicians and departmental employees.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and participate in technical training to enhance skills.
  • Ensure all equipment meets applicable standards (AAMI, ASTM, NFPA 99, FDA, and facility policy) before being placed into service.
  • Support regulatory audits and accreditation inspections by providing complete and accurate maintenance documentation.

Requirements

  • A High School Diploma or GED required; Associate degree (A.A.) or technical certification in Electronics, Biomedical Equipment Technology, or a related field preferred.
  • 2+ years of related manufacturing assembly, testing, or troubleshooting experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills, including experience with refurbishing, assembling, cleaning, and prepping medical equipment.
  • Advanced knowledge of medical devices and instrumentation, including troubleshooting and repairing complex equipment such as patient monitors and electrosurgical units.
  • Knowledge of circuit boards, processors, chips, electronic equipment, and computer hardware/software, including applications and programming.
  • Proficiency with precision hand tools, torque tools, and a variety of test equipment, including power supplies, multimeters, oscilloscopes, leak detection and vacuum systems, pressure generators, voltmeters, ohmmeters, ovens, soldering equipment, and microscopes.
  • Must have soldering experience to perform basic mechanical assembly tasks and rework on units.
  • Understanding of quality control and inspection protocols, with experience conducting both incoming and outgoing inspections.
  • Experience with inventory management, including inventory tracking systems and barcoding processes, as well as technical documentation involving documenting deficiencies, estimating repairs, and coordinating assessments for used goods.
  • Ability to read and work from drawings, blueprints, schematics, wiring diagrams, and written instructions with limited supervision.
  • Highly detail-focused, well-organized, and consistently adheres to deadlines.
  • Good communication and customer service abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Basic computer skills, including familiarity with Microsoft Office and inventory management systems.
  • Lift regularly lift and/or move up to 10 lbs, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 lbs, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. and sit, stand or move for extended periods in a warehouse or service environment.
