Android Framework Engineer

The Opportunity

Flock Safety is seeking an Android Framework Engineer to join our Device OS Team. This is an Embedded Systems role, not a Mobile App role. You will develop the system services, IPC interfaces (AIDL), and hardware abstractions for our AI-driven cameras.

• Design and implement versioned service interfaces via AIDL/HIDL to expose device functionality to headless Kotlin apps via a custom SDK
• Develop testable service implementations in Rust/C++
• Work with the android build system and best practices for API design between kernel and apps
• Write unit tests and use tools like android profiler & memory leaks/management
• Optimize power and performance using tools like perfetto, tracing
• Participate in AOSP development including shell scripting experience & init.rc
• Have knowledge of security and SE Policy
• Debug on custom Android HW, trace app code through different layers of the stack
• Work on OTA updates, reliability/self-healing, network/connectivity, tombstone/bugreport analysis, system app development, methodologies, design patterns, etc.
• Write automation shell scripts to improve productivity and share such scripts with the team

Skillset

• Experience designing versioned service interfaces via AIDL/HIDL
• Knowledge of the android build system and API design
• Strong Kotlin/JAVA development experience including coroutines & OS threading concepts
• Unit testing, CTS/VTS, Power and performance optimizations
• Experience with JIRA, Confluence, Jenkins, Gerrit, Git/GitHub
• C/C++ skills and expertise with lower levels of the stack such as kernel, services, bootloaders
• Linux kernel driver development experience
• Familiarity with tools like perfetto for debugging and performance
• Familiarity with Qualcomm based Android devices
• Experience with Qualcomm Camera Stack
• Ability to write automation shell scripts to improve productivity
