Anchor/Reporter
About the role
WMUR, the ABC affiliate in Manchester, NH, is seeking an Anchor/Reporter who can bring the energy of live reporting to our anchor desk. This role requires credibility, poise, and personality, along with the ability to head into the field to break big stories. You will enterprise exclusives, craft compelling stories, and complete live shots while holding those in power accountable. The position involves mentoring producers and reporters, writing and editing scripts with viewer interaction in mind, and working efficiently under tight deadlines.
Responsibilities
- Deliver scripted and ad-lib material with professionalism, personality, and purpose.
- Work with and guide reporters and producers in newscast production.
- Plan, gather, and assemble stories on day-of news or special project assignments.
- Coordinate with news managers and producers to develop in-depth stories with unique enterprise angles and exclusive content.
- Develop a network of sources to break significant stories.
- Appear on behalf of the station at public events.
- Contribute pictures, video, and text updates to mobile platforms throughout the day.
- Manage multiple stories and projects simultaneously while meeting all deadlines.
- Summarize information into easy-to-understand components.
Requirements
- 2+ years of anchor experience required.
- 2+ years of reporting experience required.
- Demo reel indicative of everyday work, showcasing ability to connect with viewers and strong reporting skills.
- Ability to operate mobile transmission devices and use the latest technology.
- Willingness to work in all weather conditions, varied shifts (including overnights and weekends), and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Valid driver’s license and a clear driving record.
- Unwavering journalistic integrity and ethical standards.
- Ability to handle the stresses and pressures of time-sensitive newscast production.
- In-person attendance is required.
- Related military experience will be considered.
