Anchor/MMJ (weekends)

About the role

The successful candidate will join WINK News, a trusted news leader in Southwest Florida, where they will be part of a team that sets the day's news agenda for a passionate and growing audience.

Responsibilities

• Engage with viewers in an authentic and relatable way, both on-air and across digital platforms
• Provide live breaking news coverage, including severe weather and major events
• Represent WINK News at community events and maintain a strong connection with the Southwest Florida audience
• Work with assignment editors, producers and news leadership to report on breaking news, enterprise stories and highly promotable news content specific to the region assigned
• Report news stories for broadcast, describing the background and details of events
• Arrange interviews with people who can provide information about stories
• Review copy and correct errors in content, grammar, and punctuation, following prescribed editorial style and formatting guidelines
• Pitch stories to news managers and news producers which are relevant to the local community
• Revise work to meet editorial approval or to fit time requirements
• Schedule and shoot news events and news reports
• Ensure that all content meets company standards for journalistic integrity and production quality
• Write stories for the web and other digital platforms
• Interact with viewers/users on social media sites
• Perform special projects and other duties as assigned

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of on-air reporting and/or anchoring experience in a newsroom preferred
• Strong ad-libbing skills and the ability to deliver news with authority and warmth
• Willingness to learn and effectively use interactive display technology during broadcasts

Physical Requirements

• Ability to sit or work at a computer for extended periods
• Clear verbal and written communication in person, by phone, and via video
• Operate standard office and recording equipment
• Navigate indoor and outdoor environments as needed for reporting
• Able to lift up to 50 pounds
• Visual and auditory ability to conduct interviews and review content
