Student position for the Fall 2026 semester assisting with laboratory setup for Human Anatomy & Physiology labs (BIO 167 and/or BIO 168). Reports to the Laboratory Supervisor; schedule finalized upon hiring.
About the role
Prep attendants assemble lab kits, set out models, handouts, and equipment, and ensure all materials are ready for each lab activity. The position requires experience using compound microscopes and focusing on prepared slides.
Responsibilities
- Set up and tear down models, microscopes, and other supplies for lab activities
- Provide suggested updates to lab documents for clarity and effectiveness
- Troubleshoot lab activities as needed
- Know locations and proper usage of all safety equipment
- Follow all departmental safety rules
- Maintain good housekeeping in the lab by:
- Filling paper towel and soap dispensers
- Wiping tables and benchtops
- Ensuring models and equipment are stored appropriately
- Reporting broken equipment/models to the Lab Supervisor
- Assist with inventory of Human A&P labs
- Communicate work schedule with the Lab Supervisor
Requirements
- Currently enrolled UM-Flint student
- Successful completion of BIO 167 & 168 or equivalent courses
- Demonstrated ability to apply laboratory safety rules
- Knowledge of proper use and handling of compound microscopes
- Recommendation by a Biology laboratory instructor
- Excellent organizational skills
- Strong communication skills
Pay
$16.25 - $16.65 per hour
Schedule
Part-time, temporary position. Weekly schedule based on lab availability; finalized upon hiring.
