Analytics Engineer, Media
Position Summary
The Analytics Engineer, Media will bridge the gap between raw media data received from first- and third-party sources and the Data Strategy and Analytics (“DSA”)-managed Fan Data Platform, ensuring that all media data is transformed into a standardized format for advanced analytics, AI product development, and data enablement.
Major Responsibilities
- Oversee data modeling for all media and content related data at the NBA
- Lead the migration of historical viewership data from its current data repository to the NBA’s central Fan Data Platform
- Write business requirements for technical resources to follow to ensure data products meet the needs of stakeholders and the business
- Develop and manage the semantic layer for media and content data ensuring that end-user analysts have a clean, readily available dataset to analyze and on top of which can be built data science models
- Serve as the internal subject-matter expert on media and content data, consulting with business stakeholders on current and future data needs from partners, shaping projects and expected outputs based on the data and technology we have and helping shape the communications and storytelling around the media and content business
- Develop proprietary forecast models for viewership at a game level with the ability to alter the forecast based on developments at the player level
- Work with external media partners and third-party data providers to secure new data or new ways of analyzing media and content data
Required Skills/Knowledge
- Demonstrated ability to develop in collaborative git projects in cloud-based data infrastructure (e.g., Azure DevOps/GitHub, Snowflake/BigQuery/Redshift, dbt Cloud)
- Advanced understanding of structuring data provided by first-party media and content providers as well as third-party syndicated providers
- Advanced knowledge of Nielsen software such as NNTV and NPower (or similar)
- Extensive knowledge of the analysis of content across linear, digital and SVOD/AVOD platforms
- Deep knowledge of audience estimates including the creation of forecasting methods or models
- Experience/Education Bachelor’s degree required with a technical or quantitative field preferred
- 5+ years experience delivering insights from syndicated media measurement tools and first-party data
- Experience in sports, media and entertainment preferred but not required
Salary Range
$120,000 - $145,000
