Job Responsibilities
- Enable and unlock various analytics use cases for the merchandising & service teams by creating and maintaining data models & pipelines enriched with institutional and departmental knowledge
- Transform and standardize raw data loaded into the data warehouse by the data engineering team; making it easy and efficient for end users to consume
- Create and maintain the semantic layer leveraged by our BI platform
- Apply software engineering best practices to analytics code, including version control, testing, and continuous integration; engage in code reviews to ensure code changes don’t result in bad data or broken pipelines
- Maintain data documentation & definitions and train users on data availability and structure
- Monitor overall health of the analytic data platform, avoid redundancy, identify data gaps, etc.
- Affiliate with ad-hoc analysis or supplying data to support urgent business needs
Qualifications
- An ideal candidate will have technical competence balanced by an empathetic understanding of business needs
- Mercandising and/or service domain expertise: vendors & manufacturers, products & services, pricing, demand & planning, purchase orders & billing/credits, inspections, repairs & installs, backlogs & queues are part of everyday vernacular
- Distribution Center & shipping domain expertise: experience supporting a large logistics operation with knowledge of various concepts and processes such as receiving, picking, & packing, returns, inspections
- Marketing domain expertise: understanding of marketing tactics and principles, strategies, and how marketing plans drive revenue
- Sales & Music Store domain expertise: experience supporting a multi-channel sales organization with knowledge of the overall sales process, communications, common sales & retail sales KPIs and how to calculate them, customer knowledge, foot traffic, CRMs etc.
- Multiple years of experience in data design and ETL
- SQL knowledge is critical
- Proficiency with dbt and other modern data stack tools
- Understanding of cloud data warehouse architecture and best practices, BigQuery experience a plus
- Looker/LookML knowledge is a plus
- Experience with git including CI/CD processes
- Self-motivated with a strong sense of ownership, urgency, and drive
- Solid organizational and prioritization skills to manage multiple projects easily while meeting deadlines
- Strong communication skills with an ability to interface effectively with all levels of the organization
- Ability to handle sensitive data in a confidential manner
