About the role

The Analytical Lab Supervisor is responsible for the overall operation and administration of the Quality Control Laboratory at our Midland, MI facility. This role ensures the safe operation of lab activities, supervises laboratory staff, and works closely with operations and QA to ensure timely and accurate product test results. This is a 100% onsite position reporting to the Dayton Site Quality Manager. Sponsorship is not available for this opportunity.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure adherence to established operations and safety policies and procedures.
  • Coordinate daily laboratory operations and testing, assigning priorities to staff as necessary.
  • Assure and maintain compliance of products and processes, reviewing data to monitor adherence to customer specifications.
  • Maintain standards in housekeeping, safety, attendance, operational discipline, process safety management, and scheduled/unscheduled maintenance.
  • Respond to personnel, operational, safety, and environmental incidents.
  • Periodically evaluate laboratory procedures, system controls, and technical documentation (e.g., SOPs, batch records) to ensure compliance.
  • Manage the use and maintenance of scientific equipment and instrumentation, ensuring calibration and validation.
  • Assist in site visits (Technical and QA), respond to customer/supplier requests, and address audit findings.
  • Provide direct supervision to Laboratory Analysts, including goal-setting, one-on-one discussions, development plans, hiring, and performance reviews.
  • Act as the point of contact for departmental training and recertification.
  • Participate in site-wide initiatives, including Quality systems improvements and Lean projects.
  • Track and report Key Performance Indicators for the Analytical Lab.
  • Execute continuous improvements within the department.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a scientific field (e.g., Chemistry, Biology).
  • 3+ years of experience as a team lead or supervisor.
  • Laboratory experience with analytical instrumentation (e.g., GC, IR, NMR, GPC, ICP, GFAAS).
  • Knowledge of laboratory methods and techniques.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, demonstrated through presentations, project oversight, or implementation of new services.
  • Strong time management skills.
  • Highly collaborative yet capable of independent work.
  • Demonstrated initiative and leadership capabilities.
  • Effective supervisory, coaching, and training skills for complex and technical work.
  • Experience with Gage R&R.
  • Six Sigma certification or experience.
