Analytical Chemist II

Position Summary

The Analytical Chemist II designs, develops, qualifies, and validates analytical methods to support characterization, release testing, and stability studies across P-R&D, chemical manufacturing, and contract analytical services. The role also contributes to developing analytical tools to assess impurities, purity, and assay of starting materials, intermediates, in-process samples, and final products.

Responsibilities

• Perform laboratory testing activities in accordance with approved methods, quality procedures, and ISO/IEC 17025 requirements
• Ensure the validity of results, impartiality and technical competence for assigned laboratory activities
• Escalate technical issues and deviations as required
• Develop new analytical methodology to meet project objectives
• Refine analysis of new methods, identify nuances, and ensure smooth lab adoption
• Support spectroscopic, chromatographic, and wet chemical analysis techniques
• Develop quotes outlining project scope, cost, timeline, and deliverables
• Safely operate instruments and handle laboratory chemicals
• Comply with safety and quality assurance program
• Understand client's requirements for analysis, quality and reporting
• Understand the accuracy and uncertainty of results
• Identify obstacles related to providing timely and quality services
• Perform client directed investigations when necessary
• Review other Analyst work for completeness and accuracy
• Engage in teamwork by exchanging insights, feedback, and technical support
• Participate in company team initiatives to enhance continuous improvement
• Work with Quality Assurance Group on CAPA investigations, client/regulatory/internal driven audits, traceability of measurements, and control of non-conforming testing and retesting

Required Experience & Knowledge

Educational Requirements: Bachelor's degree in chemistry or a related scientific discipline.

Experience Qualifications:

• Five (5) years of experience working as an R&D or contract analytical chemist
• Experience in wet-chemistry, compendial testing, mass spectrometry (MS), chromatography, inductively coupled plasma – optical emission spectrometry (ICP-OES), Total Organic Carbon (TOC) analysis, FT-IR and UV-VIS spectrophotometry
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Teams, etc.) for documentation and collaboration
• Proficiency in laboratory good documentation practices (GDP)

Technical Knowledge:

• Understanding of laboratory quality systems and controlled documentation
• Knowledge of applicable test or calibration principles
• Awareness of measurement uncertainty, where applicable
• Familiarity with data integrity and traceability requirements

Skills:

• Ability to follow written technical procedures accurately
• Competence in operating laboratory instruments relevant to assigned methods
• Accurate data recording and basic data review capability
• Effective communication of technical information and issues

Physical Demand

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is also required to stand for long periods of time, walk, and occasionally climb stairs, ladders, or platforms, as well as balance. The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

Industrial laboratory work environment. The role involves performing analytical testing, setting up instrumentation, and assisting in the development and implementation of methods and procedures in support of both manufacturing and R&D operations. The environment can be fast-paced and may require prioritizing multiple tasks while maintaining high accuracy. The noise level is usually moderate.

Compensation

The salary range for the position of Analytical Chemist II is $55,000 - $80,000. Many factors go into determining employee pay within the range including prior experience, current skills, location/labor market, internal equity and other factors as permitted by law.
