About the role

This position will be responsible for providing project management leadership, financial and technical support in the planning, siting, development, and deployment of renewable natural gas (RNG) assets in support of Southern Company Gas’s regulated and commercial businesses. This position will also support Southern Company Gas’ existing and future RNG assets to ensure operational and commercial performance meets the company’s financial and strategic objectives. The successful candidate will need to work cross-functionally to align projects with business goals, manage cross-functional teams, and communicate across the enterprise.

Responsibilities

  • Leading (and serving on) diverse, enterprise-wide project teams in the evaluation and deployment of renewable gas assets and other strategic initiatives
  • Leading negotiations, development activities, and/or contract management
  • Conducting economic evaluations and profitability analysis for renewable gas resource options using spreadsheet-based financial models
  • Developing and maintaining renewable gas technology resource cost and performance metrics
  • Performing market intelligence efforts (technology development, pricing, commercial viability)
  • Preparing and presenting project evaluation results and/or project business cases to all levels of enterprise-wide management and peer groups
  • Working with each local distribution company (LDC) and business unit to manage new projects
  • Supporting business development activities including opportunity origination and strategic uses of company RNG resources (CNG fleet usage, voluntary offtake, LDC use, etc.)
  • Coordinating internal/external resources to optimize asset performance, resolve issues, and maintain reliability
  • Establishing and tracking key performance indicators relevant to plant performance and contractual/environmental compliance
  • Providing oversight and coordinating efforts to ensure compliance with environmental laws, regulations, and permits, including implementing compliance programs for required monitoring, recordkeeping, and reporting
  • Providing updates throughout the organization, including senior management
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in engineering, applied science, mathematics, economics, or finance preferred. An advanced degree is highly desirable, particularly an MBA
  • 4-7 years minimum experience (Analyst II)
  • 7+ years experience (Sr. Analyst)
  • Experience in one or more of the following areas:
    • Technology development
    • Project management
    • Asset management
    • Financial analysis
    • Integrated resource planning
  • Knowledge of natural gas systems and/or renewable energy
  • Experience in project development, project management and/or leadership, large capital projects, contract development, contract negotiation, and contract management/administration is a plus
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently
  • Strong expertise in Microsoft applications including Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Must be able to visit job sites, which may be outside in rough or uneven terrain
