As a Risk Management Claims Analyst, you will be responsible for the prompt and effective investigation, evaluation, and resolution of claims covered by American Airlines Group Inc.’s insurance programs. You will monitor and evaluate reported claims to ensure compliance with American’s claims handling standards and best practices, while maintaining effective relationships with third-party claim administrators, insurance carriers, defense counsel, In Flight, Airport Operations, Safety, Legal, Customer Relations, and Corporate Communications.
Responsibilities
- Analyze and manage claims by investigating and gathering information to determine exposure; develop action plans for timely resolution.
- Assess liability and resolve claims within evaluation parameters.
- Ensure claim files are properly documented and claims coding is accurate.
- Communicate claim activity updates to claimants professionally within 24 to 48 hours.
- Calculate and assign timely and appropriate reserves to claims; manage reserve adequacy throughout the claim’s lifecycle.
- Negotiate settlement of claims within designated authority limits.
- Ensure timely and effective case resolution to determine early case outcomes.
- Review and approve legal invoices for compliance with American’s claims handling standards.
- Manage the litigation process, including retaining, monitoring, and managing outside counsel; assist in discovery and attend legal proceedings as needed.
- Manage claim recoveries, including subrogation, when appropriate.
- Participate in claim file roundtables and formal claim reviews with insurers.
- Report files to insurers at requisite thresholds.
- Complete Index/ISO reporting, background checks, and mandatory Medicare reporting.
- Interpret contracts and seek contribution for claims against vendors and service providers.
- Keep management updated and perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
- At least 5 years of multi-line claims adjusting experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Texas-licensed claim adjuster.
Skills
- Ability to analyze and effectively communicate complex insurance claims.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Superior judgment and excellent negotiation skills.
- Proficiency in PC applications such as Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills; able to work well under deadlines in a changing environment and perform multiple tasks effectively.
- Ability to function at a high level of professionalism with claimants, claimant attorneys, internal and external stakeholders, and defense attorneys.
- Experience handling litigation-related claims.
- Airline industry, leisure, or hospitality experience is a plus.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure within a collaborative team-oriented environment using sound judgment and decision-making.
