Job Description and Duties

The Analyst I performs a variety of administrative and analytical duties under the supervision of the Solicitor General and Principal Deputy Solicitor General. These duties include:

  • Generating tables of authorities and preparing excerpts of record in the Ninth Circuit.
  • Corresponding with printing services for United States (U.S.) Supreme Court briefs.
  • Assisting with preparation of appendices for U.S. Supreme Court briefs.
  • Aiding in ensuring OSG attorneys satisfy appropriate training requirements.
  • Scheduling performance appraisals for OSG attorneys.
  • Maintaining the Solicitor General's schedule.
  • Assisting with ad hoc projects to improve unit efficiency and organization.

Working Conditions

This position is eligible for telework and is currently a remote-centered position. However, the position may require in-person attendance when requested. The selected candidate would report to the Department of Justice office in San Francisco when required to attend mandated in-person meetings, trainings, etc. Expenses related to travel to the office for required events are the responsibility of the employee. All telework schedules are subject to change and may be reevaluated at any time.

Special Requirements

  • A fingerprint check will be required.

  • If you are using education to meet the minimum qualifications for this position, you must submit a copy of your transcript or diploma. An official transcript will be required upon appointment.

  • Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Show strong organizational skills.
  • Have the ability to engage professionally and courteously and work effectively with all levels of staff.
  • Have knowledge of the California Automated Travel Expense Reimbursement System and ProLaw.
  • Exercise the highest degree of initiative and independence of action.
  • Be knowledgeable of Word, Excel, and Outlook.

  1. Describe your amount of experience (e.g., days, months, years) drafting formal correspondence (e.g., letters and emails) and scheduling meetings and events. In your response, clearly identify the specific positions where you gained this experience and explain your level of responsibility when performing this kind of work.
  2. Describe your level of proficiency (e.g., beginner, intermediate, advanced user, etc.) with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook; Adobe Acrobat; and any experience with case management software, such as ProLaw. In your response, detail any projects or responsibilities you have undertaken to elaborate on your familiarity and proficiency with these software suites.
