Analyst - Financial Planning & Analysis
About the Role
This is an open position within FirstEnergy Service Company, a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp. The Analyst will be responsible for budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis, and performance reporting for assigned business units. The role serves as a key liaison between Finance and Corporate Business Unit Leadership, providing insight and support to drive informed business decisions. This on-site position is located at FirstEnergy’s corporate headquarters in Akron, OH.
Responsibilities
- Support monthly, quarterly, and annual financial processes, including reconciliations, budgeting, forecasting, reporting, and long-range strategic planning.
- Prepare and distribute recurring financial reports and analysis for management and business partners.
- Partner with leadership and peers to provide exceptional customer service, proactive financial support, and actionable insights.
- Conduct ad hoc financial and operational analyses, interpret results, and support implementation of business and process improvement initiatives.
- Facilitate month-end close activities, including journal entries, accruals, amortizations, and account reconciliations.
- Maintain financial master data and ensure accuracy of financial information.
- Monitor financial performance and identify trends, risks, and opportunities within assigned business units.
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships across Finance and other business functions.
- Recommend improvements to financial processes, reporting, and controls to enhance efficiency and business value.
- Exercise sound judgment and operate independently while managing assigned projects and responsibilities.
- Support FirstEnergy's financial and strategic objectives through data-driven analysis and recommendations.

Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, or a related field.
- Minimum of four years of relevant financial, accounting, budgeting, forecasting, or analytical experience.
- Strong financial acumen and analytical problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver accurate, high-quality work within established deadlines.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to continuous improvement.
Preferred Skills
- Experience in the utility or other regulated industries.
- Knowledge of SAP and related financial systems.
- Experience with QlikView, UIPlanner, or other reporting and planning tools.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including pivot tables, data manipulation, analysis, and presentation of information for various audiences.
- Strong understanding of financial statements, profit center accounting, budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow analysis.
- Demonstrated ability to research issues, identify solutions, and provide recommendations.
- Proven desire to learn, grow, and build strong business relationships across the organization.
- Ability to anticipate business needs and proactively address questions.
