About the role
The NASA Postdoctoral Program (NPP) seeks candidates to characterize a new in situ instrument designed to measure extinction coefficients and lidar ratios of aerosols and clouds accurately. This project aims to provide critical data for interpreting space-based lidar measurements like those from CALIPSO and ICESat-2.
Responsibilities
- Characterize the new in situ instrument in an environmental chamber
- Investigate the lidar ratios of different aerosol types
- Contribute to theoretical and experimental atmospheric science projects
- Collaborate with other researchers on quantum sensing and Earth science remote sensing requirements
- Work as part of a team on various projects
Requirements
- PhD in the physical sciences, preferably Physics, Chemistry, or Atmospheric, or a relevant Engineering discipline
- Previous laboratory and/or field experience
- Experience with analytical instrumentation for atmospheric measurements
- Experience combining multiple data sources into scientific analyses
- Good written and verbal communication skills
Qualifications
- Ability to work as a member of a team on various projects
- Occasional deployment travel may be necessary
Skills
- Experience with a variety of data analysis software packages
- Demonstrated success in collaborative environments
- Expertise in aerosol measurement
Benefits
- One to three-year fellowship
- Opportunity to engage in ongoing NASA research projects
- Competitive program designed to advance NASA’s missions
