Position Summary
The Ammunition Specialist, under general supervision, serves as a point of contact for the issuance, receipt, storage, and safeguard of ammunition and explosives (A&E) to authorized customers. Performs duties similar to a warehouse specialist with emphasis on the specific requirements for accountability and certification regarding the handling of ammunition and explosives.
Essential Functions Of The Position
- Receives, stores and safeguards A&E in accordance with strict military and company standards.
- Posts all required safety, fire, and hazard symbol signs in prominent locations in and around the Ammunition Supply Point, as required.
- Performs security surveillance to ensure safety and fire prevention.
- Stores A&E by compatibility groups, research, and maintain to meet all regulatory requirements.
- Segregates live ammunition from expended ammunition.
- Screens all brass (recoverable components), removes live ammunition and maintains expended brass until economically feasible for disposition.
- Flags lots in bunkers upon receipt of lot suspension notices, overhead fire notices or lot restrictions.
- Includes checks of ammunition currently issued.
- Inspects incoming shipments for discrepancies.
- Issues A&E to authorized customers.
- Conducts inventories directed with zero tolerance.
- Prepare hazardous material for shipment as directed by company policy and regulations.
- Constructs and labels shipping containers, packs item and prepares shipment manifest.
Marginal Functions
May perform duties of other classifications that have a pay rate equal to or lower than the employee’s current rate.
Supervisory Responsibilities
No direct supervisory responsibilities.
Physical Demands
- Frequent bending, standing, walking, sitting
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. independently
- Ability to push and pull up to 3600 lbs. using MHE assistance
- Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate computer and peripherals
- Use of appropriate PPE i.e. hard hat, gloves, safety glasses, steel toe shoes
- Use of appropriate hand tools i.e. hammer, screwdriver, pry bar
Minimum Qualifications
- Must pass MHE testing and maintain licenses.
- Must pass specialized training; ammunitions training…etc.
- Must pass annual local background checks.
- Must have warehousing experience.
- Must be customer-service oriented.
- Must possess and present a valid state Real I.D.
- Must possess high school diploma or equivalent.
- Must be able to speak, write, read, understand English, and follow written/verbal directions.
- Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Must be able to certify and maintain certifications and licenses as required.
- Must be a self-starter; able to work as a team or independently, with limited supervision.
- Must be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Teams).
- Must be adaptable, flexible, and able to adjust to new or changing instructions.
- Must be able to multi-task and complete assignments accurately and on time.
- Must be able to maintain high standards of confidentiality.
- Must be willing to work flexible hours to accommodate requirements, sometimes under short notice, to include days, nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Overtime may be required.
- Able to multitask and demonstrate attention to detail.
- Must be reliable, responsible, and able to fulfill obligations.
Security Requirements
- Must be a US Citizen.
- Must be able to pass a National Criminal Background Check.
- Must be able to pass the National Agency Background Check and obtain computer access.
- Must be able to obtain a Common Access Card (CAC).
