About the role

Chesapeake Conservancy is seeking a Half-Time AmeriCorps member (approximately 20 hours/week) for the 2026-2027 service year to help with their Chesapeake Tributaries Initiative. The position is primarily remote, with occasional in-person, on-site meetings and events on Maryland’s Eastern Shore, or at the Conservancy’s Annapolis office. Chesapeake Conservancy is a nonprofit organization focused on protecting and restoring the Chesapeake Bay through science, data, and partnerships.

Responsibilities

• Synthesize scientific research related to nutrient transport, hydrography, landscape characteristics, and restoration strategies
• Use GIS and mapping tools to help identify and prioritize high-impact restoration opportunities
• Support coordination with Eastern Shore partners and regional collaboratives to keep restoration efforts aligned and moving forward
• Support implementation of restoration projects, including riparian buffers and other best-management practices
• Track project progress and maintain data related to restoration activities and outcomes
• Assist with basic monitoring, data collection, and reporting to support water quality and habitat goals
• Develop communications resources like StoryMaps, infographics, program reports, and data dashboards

Requirements

• Have a strong interest in serving the community
• Be able to relate to diverse populations
• Be at least 18 years of age
• Be able to provide copy of either high school diploma, GED, or college transcript
• Have reliable transportation for on-site meetings/events
• Be available to attend the free, AmeriCorps class at SU alternate Thursdays, 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., during the Fall and Spring semesters (remote participation is an option)
• Must successfully pass a comprehensive Criminal History Check, which includes FBI fingerprinting
• Must be a U.S. Citizen, U.S. National, or lawful permanent resident alien

Schedule

The member will generally serve during standard business hours (Monday–Friday), with flexibility based on project and partner needs. Occasional evening or weekend hours may be required to support community outreach events, participate in volunteer activities (such as tree plantings), or attend partner meetings. Schedules will be coordinated in advance to ensure consistency while allowing flexibility for fieldwork, seasonal priorities, and partner engagement across the Eastern Shore. The member will begin on or after August 15th, 2026 and must complete 900 hours by August 14th, 2027.
