The instructor will be responsible for:

• Teaching a part-time schedule of American Sign Language (ASL) courses as assigned;
• Using a variety of pedagogies and integrating instructional delivery systems, including innovative uses of technology for face-to-face, online, and/or hybrid formats;
• Communicating effectively with students, faculty, and staff;
• Employing effective teaching methods appropriate to the subject matter and adhering to institutionally approved curriculum;
• Evaluating student progress through tests, examinations, written assignments, and oral responses;
• Providing course syllabi to students;
• Maintaining classroom records in accordance with District Policy;
• Submitting all required student grading and evaluation reports in a timely manner;
• Teaching assignments in various instructional settings and times, including classes as needed;
• Fulfilling all duties and responsibilities of instructors as required by Administrative Regulation 7122;
• Performing other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• Evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, as these factors relate to equity-minded practice in the classroom;
• Bachelor’s degree or higher and two years of directly related professional experience; or
• Associate degree and six years of directly related professional experience; or
• A valid California Community College Credential; or
• The equivalent education and/or experience (requires an equivalency petition).

Desirable Qualifications

• Experience incorporating elements of diversity, equity, and inclusion into all areas of responsibility;
• Recent experience working with African American, Asian/Pacific Islander, Latinx, Native American, and other racially minoritized students in the classroom;
• Willingness to examine and remediate instructional, relational, and classroom practices to support racially minoritized students;
• Related work and professional experience;
• Experience working with students of various cultural, gender, age, socioeconomic, and ethnic backgrounds, including students with disabilities;
• Experience working with traditionally underrepresented student populations, such as students of color and foster youth;
• Experience facilitating multicultural and cross-cultural communication with sensitivity to diverse backgrounds;
• Experience with and sensitivity to under-prepared and high-need students at the community college;
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with faculty and staff to enhance instruction, curriculum, and student success;
• Demonstrated ability to use computers and other technologies for high-quality instruction;
• Effective communication skills with students and staff;
• Knowledge of current assessment methods and materials;
• Knowledge of the community college and its mission and goals.

Pay

• Newly hired part-time faculty will be placed on step one (1) of the Part-Time Faculty Salary Schedule.
• All salary classification placements on the salary schedule will be based on education and experience.
• Sick leave accrual is based on assignment hours.
