About the role
We are currently looking for an ASL interpreter. The role involves providing sign language interpretation services in various settings, supporting individuals who are deaf, deafened, hard of hearing, and/or oral.
Responsibilities
- Effectively interpret between American Sign Language (ASL) and spoken English
- Maintain compliance with any national, state, or local licensure and/or certification requirements
- Adhere to guidelines for NAD-RID Code of Professional Conduct
- Accurately complete assigned tasks/duties, projects, and paperwork promptly and within approved guidelines
- Possess the ability to quickly learn and implement new and changing technologies
- Possess the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic, highly regulated environment
- Demonstrate willingness and ability to complete additional duties and assignments on an ongoing basis
- Communicate and report to your team leader
Requirements
- Fluency in English and American Sign Language (ASL)
- Minimum 1 year interpretation experience preferred
- Interpreter certification (RID – CDI)
- Understanding of deaf culture, social experiences of deaf and hard of hearing persons, history of education for students who have various levels of hearing loss, and current pedagogical trends
- Proven interpersonal skills when working with deaf and hearing-impaired persons, communication service providers, instructors, and administrators
- Proficient computer skills including word processing, spreadsheets, email, electronic scheduling, and internet
- Excellent written communication skills
- Ability to work independently and within a team
- Render correct concepts and meanings according to the conventions of established interpretation protocol, avoiding omissions or additions
